International Conference “New Trajectories of Integration in the Caucasus: The Challenges for Conflict and Security”

On June 2, 2015 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (GFSIS) hosted the international conference. The event was organized in partnership with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). 

The conference brought together leading experts from the EU and the South Caucasus as well as representatives of the international community to explore how the implementation of new forms of international economic and political cooperation (Eurasian Union/Customs Union,   Eastern  Partnership/Association Agreement) are affecting security and conflicts in the Caucasus.  The special focus of the event was to identify the ways in which the EU and other international actors can promote increased stability in the region.

 Distinguished speakers on the keynote address included: The State Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic integration - Mr. David Bakradze and the First State Deputy Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality of Georgia - Ms. Ketevan Tsikhelashvil

The panelists  included well-known international experts and the  academics representing South Caucasus, Russia and Western Europe.

The conference was held within the scope of  the EU supported research project "CASCADE - Exploring the Security-Democracy Nexus in the Caucasus".
