On October 20, 2005 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies hosted a guest lecturer, U.S. Graduate Fulbright grantee Mark Simakovsky. The lecture concerned the current state of Georgian-Russian relations and strategies for the resolution of the frozen conflicts of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Simakovsky discussed some preliminary findings of his recent trip to Russia during which he had conducted interviews with top Russian policy makers and analysts on Russia’s relations with the North and South Caucasus.

The audience included young policy makers and members of the international community. Simakovsky himself is a graduate of Georgetown University’s Masters in Foreign Service program. He is in Georgia on a 10-month Fulbright grant to research Georgian-Russian relations. He has already published several articles on the subject. In addition to his policy research, Simakovsky is the lecturer in American geography at the Black Sea University.
