The Graduation Ceremony for the Training Program “National Security and International Relations”

On December 26, 2005 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies organized the graduation ceremony for the training program “National security and International relations”. The program participants included journalists from different media outlets. During the ceremony, the course graduates were awarded with the certificate and symbolic presents. At the end of the training program, students had had to write short essays on the issues covered during the courses. The authors of the three most distinguishing works were awarded with additional prizes.

The current program was the part of the Foundation’s seven-month project aimed at increasing Georgian journalists’ capacity and knowledge in economics, domestic and international politics. The aforementioned project was funded by IREX. The training program covered such topics as the contemporary international relations theories; role of the small states in the international politics; nationalism and ethnic conflicts; western institutions and the Georgian prospective on integration, transitional economy and globalization. The students had discussions with the experts working in the relevant fields and participated in practical activities that intended to improve their research and writing skills. The courses were held during the morning hours in order to accommodate to the working schedule of the participants.

The Foundation plans to further implement the foregoing training program in order to involve more journalists from Georgia.
