Public Lecture on the topic of Armenia and its disposition towards the nations of the South Caucasus

2006 / 06 / 28

On  June 28, 2006  Vartan Oskanian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia  gave a brief public lecture  on the topic of Armenia and its disposition towards the nations of the South Caucause at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies. Mr. Oskanian spoke at length on a number of different subjects, including Armenia's economic progress and problematic diplomatic relations with neighboring Azerbaijan but most often stressed the need for regional cooperation and mutual support. Acknowledging the need for continued reforms in the direction of democratization and economic development, Mr. Oskanian stated that the process of democratization in Armenia had become "irreversible" and that Armenia was "ahead of the pack."  He cited the shared goal of European integration as a key uniting factor between the affairs of Armenia and Georgia, and expressed optimism for future collaboration between the two nations towards that common vision.
