Discussion Series on Building Democracy In Georgia

On November 3, 2003, the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies opened the discussion series on Building Democracy in Georgia. Within the framework of the round table meetings Mr. Ghia Nodia, Chair of the Board of the Caucasian Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development delivered the presentation on two attempts to establish democracy in Georgia. Mr. Nodia outlined the historical elements of establishing democracy in Georgia in the late 1980s and since the beginning of the country’s independence. After the historical overview, the presenter analyzed the possible models of Post-Shevardnadze epoch. The presentation was followed with the discussion. Mr Nodia and the foundation students attending the meeting debated on the existing political situation in Georgia.

The discussion series are implemented by GFSIS with the support of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA). Over the past fifteen years, International IDEA has provided the national actors with a platform for analysis and debate to help them assess their country’s political, social and cultural development.
