Visit of the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy

On April 18, 2008 Daniel P. Fata, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy visited the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies. Mr. Fata spoke to a group of Georgian governmental, civil society and media representatives on the results of the NATO Summit which took place in Bucharest, Romania earlier this month.

Following his opening intervention, Mr. Fata took questions from the audience on topics concerning Georgia-Russia relations, the next steps forward for the Georgia-NATO partnership and the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Mr. Fata assumed his duties as the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy in September 2005.  Previously, he was the Policy Director for National Security and Trade on the US Senate Republican Policy Committee.  He also served as the Policy Director for National Security and Foreign Affairs on the US House of Representatives Republican Policy Committee.  He is an expert in Lithuanian and Swedish foreign policy and worked extensively to assist Lithuania in its NATO accession.
