Public Discussion – “Afghanistan: Why and How”

On December 3, 2009 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, in cooperation with the Georgian Security Analysis Center, hosted a public discussion -“Afghanistan: Why and How”. The chairman of the discussion was Professor Alexander Rondeli, President of the Foundation. The speakers were COL Matthew Brand, United States Defense Attaché; H. E. Eric Fournier, Ambassador of France to Georgia; Mr. Niloloz Vashakidze, Deputy Minister of Defense of Georgia and Ambassador David J. Smith, Director of the Georgian Security Analysis Center.

The panel discussion was about the current situation in Afghanistan. The speakers expressed different views toward the issue. The main questions were: why the allied forces are today in Afghanistan? What are the main reasons and how are they going to deal with the created situation?

After the presentations, there was ample questioning and discussion. The event was attended by the representatives of the Government, NGOs, foreign diplomats and foreign experts.
