Public Lecture on General Overview of the Situation in Afghanistan

On February 16,  2012 Abdul Ali Shamsi, principle security advisor to Afghanistan’s Helmand provincial governor, delivered a public lecture at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies. The guest gave a general overview of the situation in Afghanistan and paid special attention to Helmand province, which not long ago was the most unstable region in the whole country. Mr. Shamsi stressed the importance of the reforms carried out in the province and the progress which was achieved in the field of security. At the same time he raised his concern on sustaining the results, maintaining stability throughout the region and strengthening institutions in this sphere. Lastly, the presenter underlined the need to tackle corruption and the importance of sharing Georgia’s experience in this matter.
