Public Debate - “Towards New European Security Strategy”

On June 9, 2016 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies hosted a public debate “Towards New European Security Strategy”. 

The meeting was opened by Ekaterine Metreveli, President of the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies and Archil Karaulashvili, First Deputy State Minister of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.  The keynote speech was made by Natalie Tocci, Deputy Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali in Rome, Special Advisor to EU HR/VP Federica Mogherini. 

The speakers and the audience discussed the EU’s security environment, identifying key security challenges. Natalie Tocci outlined some key threats such as terrorism, cyber crime, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, regional conflicts, state failure and organized crime. 

The discussion was facilitated by Kakha Gogolashvili, Director of the European Studies at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies. 

H.E Janos Herman, the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, as well as the representatives of governmental agencies, Georgian expert community and civil society attended the meeting.
