Panel Discussion in Akhalkalaki on the Association Agreement between Georgia and the EU

On December 21, 2016 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies organized a presentation for the representatives of ethnic Armenian minority community on “Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union” at the regional office of the Foundation in Akhalkalaki, Samtskhe-Javakheti.

The presentation was conducted by Archil Karaulashvili, the First Deputy Minister of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Mikheil Mirziashvili, Director of Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS). The presenters gave a brief overview of the EU-Georgia cooperation, discussed the aim, the structure and the spheres of cooperation as well as the benefits of the Association Agreement. The speakers separately discussed the advancement in visa-liberalization process.

The abovementioned panel discussion was organized in the framework of the project “Awareness raising of Ethnic Minority Communities of Georgia on the issues of Euro-Atlantic Integration” implemented by GFSIS and supported by the Embassy of Romania, NATO Contact Point Embassy (CPE) in Georgia.

The project envisages conducting series of seminars on NATO and EU at its branch office in Akhalkalaki, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Marneuli Youth Centre in Kvemo Kartli to the minority communities of Georgia.

The regional seminars conducted by GFSIS aim to help to replace existing myths established as negative clichés about the West with the reliable information provided in a language and form understandable to ordinary citizens, increase the knowledge of local communities on economic and social effects of integration with the West as well as demonstrate the commitment of the Georgian state towards the idea of Euro-Atlantic integration.
