1st Meeting of the EU-Georgia Civil Society Platform

On June 16, 2016 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies hosted the 1st meeting of the EU-Georgia Civil Society Platform.

The Article 412 of the Georgia-EU Association Agreement provides for the establishment of the EU-Georgia Civil Society Platform that has to monitor the implementation of the Agreement and make recommendations for the Georgia-EU Association Council and other relevant institutions of the governments and parliaments of European Union and Georgia.

The meeting was opened by Kakha Gogolashvili, Director of the EU Studies at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, Co-Chairmen of the Platform and Andrzej Adamczyk, Member of the European Social and Economic Committee as well as Co-Chairman of the Platform. The assessments of the state of play in the implementation of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement were made by H.E Janos Herman, Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia and Davit Bakradze, State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Georgia. 

The representatives of European Union and Georgian civil society presented their concerns about the implementation of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement. A Civil Society Platform working method and a joint statement were adopted at the meeting. 

The next meeting of the EU-Georgia platform is scheduled to be held in Brussels, December 2016.
