Conference – “Public Administration Transformation in the South Caucasus”

2008 / 03 / 28

On March 26-27, 2008 the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies hosted a regional conference – „Public Administration Transformation in the South Caucasus” at the Courtyard Marriot hotel in Tbilisi, in the framework of its Public Policy Knowledge Network.

The two-day event, sponsored by the Open Society Institute in Budapest, was organized within one opening plenary session and four specific working sessions.  The first session addressed the issue of education in public administration and the challenges and prospects therein. The second session focused upon the inter-connection between schools of public administration and the public service with an evaluation of the balance between the supply and demand and the level of co-operation between the two sides within the process of public administration reform.  The third session discussed human resources management in relation to public administration reform in the South Caucasus.  The fourth session looked at the processes of policy formation in the region addressing such specific issues as the strengths and weaknesses of the existing public policy processes and the development of the policy-making capacity of administrative systems.

The conference is another in the list of achievements from within the Public Policy Knowledge Network which has been managed jointly by the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies and the Canadian Bureau for International Education and funded by the Canadian International Development Agency in the South Caucasus since 2003.
