Capacity Building in International Relations 15: Training in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law

On October 31 - November 12, 2008 the training program in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law took place at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies

During the training, the hosted 18 participants, young professionals from various governmental agencies of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Participants where taught by the leading professionals in the fields of human rights and humanitarian law: Prof. Andrea Bianchi from Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva; Prof. Yves Sandos, a member of the International Institute of Human Rights and of International Committee of Red Cross; and Prof. Paul Meerts, from Clingendael Institute, Netherlands.

The course is part of the project Capacity Building in International Relations and is an initiative sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, organized by the Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and implemented in cooperation with local partners.

The broad objective of the project is to promote the role of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia within international organizations, increase the accountability and transparency in the management of public affairs and to improve access to information. “Capacity Building in International Relations” has the aim to strengthen the governance of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia for effective representation at the international level.

The course is held alternatively in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
