2007 / 03 / 14

On March 14, 2007 Mr. Jean Fournet, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, as a part of his official visit to Georgia visited the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies.

The Georgin Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, in co-operation with the Georgian Council on Foreign Relations and the Atlantic Council of Georgia, hosted him and members of his delegation for an afternoon program of events which included the official inauguration of the NATO Depository Library for Georgia and a public roundtable session.

The NATO Depository Library for Georgia marks the beginning of a joint partnership between the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies and NATO. Newly established and housed within the premises of the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, the library will provide information about the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and related topics to scholars, students and the wider public with a provision for interlibrary loan and a service enabling the request and dispatch of photocopied materials for use outside of Tbilisi.  Dr. Teimuraz Kancheli, Head of the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies Resource Centre, will be in charge of the Library's management.

The public roundtable, which followed the official opening, featured a brief presentation by Dr. Rondeli who opened the floor to the group of representatives from non-governmental organizations, local experts and other invited guests.  Mr. Fournet offered his thoughts and commentary on questions regarding Georgia-NATO relations, NATO and Russia and the readiness of NATO Member States to accept Georgia's membership in the Alliance.
